design system

I built OBSERVE a design system for the Listener app & CelistiaSkin app because it provides consistency and efficiency in my design process. As a designer, It serves as a centralized resource to streamline my workflow and ensure a cohesive visual identity across my work. This system reflects my commitment to creating thoughtful and user-centric designs.

Objective

UX strategic designer

This is an individual project that allowed me to plan and direct each step of the design thinking process as a UX strategic design student with mobile and web UI design experience.

Role

  • Kickoff in early November

  • Winded in late November

Schedule

  • User Feedback Incorporation:

Incorporating user feedback into the design system is both enlightening and challenging.  Learning how to effectively glean insights from user feedback, prioritize changes, and iterate on the design system required nuance approach from my end.

  • Accessibility Integration:

Ensuring that the design system is accessible to users with diverse abilities presents a learning curve. As an entry-level designer, understanding and implementing accessibility standards, such as color contrast, keyboard navigation, and screen reader compatibility, may be new territory.

  • Version Control and Documentation:

Learning to track changes, document updates, about the system's evolution is crucial. Establishing a well-organized and accessible documentation system helped in the overall success and sustainability of the design system.

Project Challenges

Design Process

1. UNDERSTANDING OF THE DESIGN LANDSCAPE

I start by conducting a comprehensive audit of existing design assets and components across various projects. This step helps identify common patterns, styles, and elements that can be standardized.

 3. COMPONENTIZATION

I break down UI elements into reusable and modular building blocks. This not only promotes consistency but also facilitates scalability and flexibility in my design. Each of these components are thoroughly documented, detailing usage guidelines, variations.

2. DEFINING THE FOUNDATIONAL ELEMENTS

I move on to defining the foundational elements, such as color palettes, typography, and spacing guidelines. This establishes a consistent visual language that will be the backbone of the design system.

4. USABILITY TESTING

It is crucial to ensure that the design system meets the needs of end-users. Adjustments are made based on user feedback and evolving project requirements. On finalization, the design system become a living document, continuously evolving as the design language evolves.
